Children's Privacy
Samjhao Buddy is made for young children, so we hold ourselves to a higher standard. This notice summarises how we protect children. It forms part of our Privacy Policy.
Parents are in charge
- Children cannot create accounts. A parent or legal guardian creates the account and each child profile, and gives consent for their child.
- A child can use the app only after the parent shares the child's personal code.
- Parents can see the questions their child asks and Buddy's answers, and can ask Buddy to answer again. When a child tells Buddy something sensitive, for example about health, fear, sadness or home, that conversation is not shown in the parent console or to the school. It is seen only by the Samjhao Buddy team, so that children can speak freely and stay safe.
- Parents choose how many minutes a day Buddy can be used and can see the minutes used each day.
- Parents can change settings or delete a child's profile and data at any time.
Schools
When a parent links a child to a partner school and the school confirms the child, teachers can follow the child's lessons, points and questions (except sensitive conversations), and classmates can see the child's first name and points on the class leaderboard. Parents can remove the school link at any time.
What we collect about a child
Only what is needed to teach and to keep the child safe: the child's first name, class, whether to address the child as a girl or a boy, learning preferences, the questions the child asks, the answers given, stars earned, the minutes Buddy is used each day, and a few short notes that Buddy remembers. Voice questions are turned into text and the recordings are not kept.
What Buddy remembers
Buddy may remember a few everyday things a child shares, such as a favourite subject or a hobby, so that it can teach in a more personal way. Anything sensitive is kept apart, is never used in Buddy's answers and is seen only by the Samjhao Buddy team. Parents can ask us to show, correct or delete these notes.
Keeping children safe
- Buddy is instructed to answer from the child's own school material first, to use simple and kind language, to avoid unsuitable topics, and to suggest that a child talk to a parent when something sounds worrying.
- If a child says something that suggests the child may be in danger or being harmed, a person in the Samjhao Buddy team is alerted straight away and may contact the parent or the school. Where the law requires it, for example under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, we will inform the appropriate authorities.
- Our team can see a dated summary of what Buddy noticed about each child. It is not a medical or psychological test and is used only to help and protect the child.
- AI can still make mistakes, so we encourage parents to review answers from time to time.
What we never do
- We do not show advertisements to children.
- We do not track children across other apps or websites, and we never use children's data for advertising or marketing.
- We do not sell or rent children's data.
- We do not let children chat with other users, and there are no public profiles.
- We do not ask children for their address, phone number, photos or other contact details.
